One dead from 'crushing injuries' and three injured in 'industrial incident'

A man has died after suffering "crushing injuries" at a manufacturing plant in Devon while three others were hurt

The industrial incident happened at West Country Concrete Products in the village of Shebbear yesterday (Tuesday, August 23) at around 3.25pm.

One person died at the scene, one was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries and another two were taken to hospital by land with minor injuries and later discharged.

Exactly what happened at the plant is not clear at this stage, Devon Live reports.

Emergency services - including police, fire crews and two air ambulances - attended the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police previously revealed "an industrial incident" had occurred.

A spokesman for Devon Air Ambulance later explained that two people - including the man who died - sustained "crushing injuries".

"One patient was conveyed to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. The second patient sadly passed away at the scene."

A witness told Devon Live : "One chap was taken off in the air ambulance on a spinal board, conscious - shouting and arms moving."
