One Greater Manchester borough continues to have a Coronavirus infection rate above the national average. Despite this, cases have still fallen across the region.
According to the latest data, Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester. The borough recorded a rate of 226.0 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 21. This is higher the national average of 214.8 cases per 100,000.
The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 145.6 cases per 100,000 people. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 178.7 cases per 100,000 population.

A total of 5,067 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 21. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 1851 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 27 per cent in the last week.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on April 17, a total of 692 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 23 fewer than the week before, a fall of 3 per cent.
On Tuesday April 19, there were 19 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is three more than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending April 21, a total of 56 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 15 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 984,791 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,153 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Wigan
There were 672 positive tests over the last week in Wigan, which is 198 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Wigan is down by 23 per cent and the latest infection rate is 203.2 cases per 100,000 people.
Salford
Salford recorded 513 coronavirus cases, which is 144 fewer than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Salford is 195.3 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 22 per cent week-on-week.
Oldham
Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 346 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 21, which is 104 fewer than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 145.6 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 23 per cent week-on-week.
Tameside
In Tameside, the number of cases is down by 34 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 157.2 cases per 100,000 population. There were 357 positive Covid-19 tests in Tameside in the week ending April 21, which was 180 fewer than the previous 7 days.
Manchester
Manchester is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 149.2 cases per 100,000 people. There were 829 cases recorded in Manchester, which is 312 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 27 per cent.
Bury
The trend is down in Bury, where there were 356 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 21, which is 139 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 28 per cent compared to the previous week. The latest infection rate in Bury is 186.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Trafford
In Trafford, the latest infection rate is 202.9 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 37 per cent. A total of 482 people tested positive for Covid in Trafford over the seven days ending on April 21, which is 281 fewer than the week before.
Bolton
Bolton saw a total of 495 cases in the week ending April 21, which is 101 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 17 per cent. In Bolton, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 171.7 cases per 100,000 people.
Rochdale
There was a fall of 24 per cent in cases in Rochdale over the week ending April 21, and the infection rate is now 157.4 cases per 100,000 population. Rochdale recorded 352 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 110 fewer than the previous week.
Stockport
In Stockport, there were 665 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 21, which is 282 fewer than the previous 7 days. Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 30 per cent.
