On this day in Boston Celtics history, Hall of Fame small forward Larry Bird put up a triple-double against the Detroit Pistons in 1982. It came in a 119-112 win over the Pistons on the road in the Pontiac Silverdome, just to make things a little more difficult.
The Hick from French Lick — as Bird was often called for a nickname — scored 30 points, 16 rebounds, and a dozen assists on the night, connecting on 13 of his 26 total attempts from the floor that evening and converting 4 of his 5 shot attempts from the charity stripe successfully.
Bird did not take even one 3-pointer, making the triple-double even more impressive.

Tiny Archibald put up 23 points and 7 assists, Kevin McHale 14 points and 7 assists and Gerald Henderson added 12 points to secure the win.
The story @alaatweets tells of Reggie Lewis' death is chilling. Alaa pulled into Brandeis to pick him up as the ambulance left.

It is also the date Jon Alan Barry — son of Hall of Fame small forward Rick Barry — was dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks by Boston.
Taken by the Celtics out of Georgia Tech with the 21st pick of the 1992 NBA draft, Barry refused to sign with the team, who held his rights until they could deal him to the Bucks for big man for Alaa Abdelnaby.
