May 5th seems to be a historic day for Chelsea football club. From knocking out Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final to beating Liverpool in the FA Cup final. The date seems to ooze in victory for the Blues.
It's ironic to think that both of these teams that Chelsea has collected historical wins from are now confirmed to play each other in the Champions League final. Who would have thought?
I can't tell you who I think would win that tie, but I can tell you just how Chelsea managed to beat both sides on this exact day.

Chelsea 2-0 Real Madrid Champions League Semi-Final.
The fact that Manchester City was unable to beat the Los Blancos in their semi-final clash last night just goes to show how incredible Chelsea was last season. They beat all the odds and played Real Madrid in a comfortable 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge. It was a spectacle to remember.
Despite Covid-19 regulations subjecting us all to becoming armchair fans, the occasion was extraordinary. This time last year, Chelsea fans worldwide were celebrating the win that sent them through to the Champions League final for the first time since 2012. A Timo Werner header and a Mason Mount tap in sealed the deal for the Blues. Not to mention Edouard Mendy's exemplary performance up against one of the best strikers in the world, Karim Benzema.
It's lovely to remember such a day, especially considering the mighty effort that Chelsea put up against Madrid just a few weeks ago. Having fallen short to a cruel extra-time goal courtesy of Luka Modric, Chelsea was knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-final. They may have beaten us this time around, but we will never forget the events of last season.
Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool 2012 FA Cup Final.
Ten years ago, Chelsea beat Liverpool to the FA Cup victory. The Blues were having a rocky year in the Premier League and ended up finishing 6th as a result. Neither team was expected to make it far in domestic competitions due to their form. Chelsea had to pass Leicester City and Tottenham, teams of which they disposed of with ease.
It all came down to that final. Despite both teams not being in the best of form, it was a much-anticipated match for the fans. The rivalry between Chelsea and Liverpool goes under the radar for those outside looking in, but this match felt like a battle. It only took 11 minutes for Ramires to score the opening goal. Juan Mata slid the ball into the Brazilian near the halfway line, and Ramires swiftly dispatched the two Liverpool defenders left behind before slotting the ball past Pepe Reina.
Liverpool did well to keep Chelsea from scoring the second goal in the first half, but they couldn't hold king Didier Drogba for long. 10 minutes into the second half, the Ivorian gave Chelsea the second goal and their destiny was sealed. The man for the big occasions.
Right now, the man for the big occasions is Kai Havertz. The German has proven to turn up in big games, so let's see if he can begin his journey to match Drogba's legacy. The Blues play Liverpool in yet another FA Cup final, and unlike the Carabao Cup, we will have the upper hand with our fixture list.
It might be destiny that on this day, it's confirmed that both teams that Chelsea have had historical moments against will face each other in the Champions League final. It's bound to be a cracker for the neutrals like ourselves. I kind of like being the last team in England to win the Champions League, so for that reason, good luck to Real Madrid!
