“All I ever wanted was to get married. Suddenly overnight, every part of my life changed,” says Molly-Mae Hague in the trailer for her documentary, Behind It All. The first three episodes of the Amazon Prime series are out today and promise to pull back the curtain on the former Love Island star’s life. Tears, arguments over the phone and Molly admitting that she has endured “the worst couple of months of my life” following her breakup with Tommy Fury.
Fans will be eager to find out the real cause of the pair’s split. Rumours have swirled for months, ranging from Fury’s alleged infidelity (which he denies), to the more recent theory that the breakup was a publicity stunt to promote the documentary.
Molly and Tommy, both 25, were the consummate Love Island success story. They met on the show in 2019 and came second, before getting together in real life. They had a daughter together named Bambi in 2023 and became engaged later that year. However, after a five year relationship the pair split up in August 2024. "Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have to write this,” wrote Molly on Instagram when she announced the news. “You have all been a part of our journey and I feel it's right to share this with you all.”
Speculation was rife. There were a number of tabloid stories over the summer about how Fury had been spotted partying with girls, leading to speculation that he had cheated on Molly. He was said to have “brazenly kissed” a Danish woman while on holiday in Macedonia by The Sun, leading to widespread speculation. However, the woman in question, 21-year-old Milla Corfixen, told The Sun that nothing happened between them. She described him as a “proper gentleman” and said he was “just being friendly”.
Fury has always denied the allegations. "Tommy is horrified by the false allegations of cheating being circulated by the media," a spokesperson for him told The Mirror. In an interview with Men’s Health this week, Fury reiterated that the rumours were “complete and utter b***ocks”.
“The reason why me and Molly broke up was because I got addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore,” he said. The boxing champion said he became reliant on alcohol following an injury to his hand which required surgery and meant he had to take months off from training.
“My mental health was in the pan,” he said. “I’ve only lived for training and my family, and that was all snatched away from me. So what I did for fun is I started to drink quite a lot. I found that's what made me feel better.” Fury admitted he was going out most nights and getting “black-out drunk,” which led to the breakdown of his relationship.
Fury’s interview came amid speculation that the split was a stunt designed to garner media attention. As well as her documentary, Molly launched her clothing brand, Maebe, in September, while Fury published a memoir in October. Fans grew sceptical after the pair were spotted kissing at a New Year’s Eve party. The following week they went to the cinema together and Fury stayed the night at Molly’s house.
Furious fans felt they had been duped, particularly since Molly’s personal brand is rooted in authenticity and honesty. But the influencer told an audience at a preview of her documentary on Thursday that the break up was genuine. “I wish it was a publicity stunt because it would have been a lot easier, but it isn't, and I think this documentary will clear up any questions of that,” she said. “I don't want people to feel confused by things that were going on. We try to explain things the best we can. When I agreed to do this documentary, I said I am doing it fully, the highs, the lows, the good days, the bad days, it's all got to be in there.”
Sources have now claimed that Molly has drawn up a list of rules for Tommy if they are ever to get back together. “Her main rule is no partying and this is the most important one.” She has also reportedly banned “wild lads’ nights out or holidays.”
Molly is in the process of filming the next three episodes of the documentary, which she describes as “very reactive and real-time”. In a vlog posted to her YouTube, she hinted that the furore around the New Year’s Kiss would feature as she filmed in early January after “a little bit of a – not a crisis broke out, but, you know, another day in the office."
