Paris Olympics: Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei pulls out of 5,000m

It's the end of an era for Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei. The athlete who was crowned Olympic champion in the 10,000m at the Stade de France on Saturday announced on Tuesday that he would not be taking part in the 5,000m at the Paris Games, where he is the defending champion.

Also, in Rwanda, more than 4,000 churches have been closed down over the last month for failing to comply with health and safety regulations, including not being properly soundproofed.

Finally, the US has handed over its last military base in Niger, one of two crucial hubs for American counterterrorism operations in the country, to local authorities.
