Former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies has paid tribute to firefighters who saved her house after her Land Rover burst into flames.

The 56-year-old posted a picture online of her destroyed car, which was parked next to her home.

The car burst into flames due to an 'electrical fault,' firefighters told Ms Davies, who was awarded an MBE in 1993.

She said that she was 'shaken' after her car, which was less than three years old, burst into flames.

She posted online: "So grateful for our wonderful fire fighters! Men & women, who were both here doing an amazing job.

"They saved our house from going up. Very scary... & very unhappy with a car less than three years old. How can this happen?! Thank you fur all your kind messages We’re ok if shaken.

"Trying to get hold of Land Rover please. This is what’s left of my car!!! Firemen say electrical fault."

Fellow swimmer Karen Pickering MBE responded online: “Jeez babe!!! That is terrifying. Glad you are all ok xx.”
