A boxer who represented Australia at the Olympics and won a medal at the Commonwealth Games has been charged with weapons offences.

The 31-year-old was also charged with possessing a handgun and ammunition without a licence and using a carriage service to menace.

Whateley had been due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday, but the matter was adjourned to June 6.

Whateley won a silver medal in the heavyweight boxing division at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

He also represented Australia at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Since turning professional he was won all his nine bouts.
