Olympiacos to end any Leeds United speculation with decisive next move

Olympiacos are reportedly targeting a move for former Leeds United assistant manager Carlos Corberan as their new head coach. The Greek champions are said to be on the verge of relieving current boss Pedro Martins of his duties following a dismal exit from the Champions League in qualification.

After a 1-1 first leg draw away at Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, Olympiacos fell to an embarrassing 4-0 home defeat in the second leg and could therefore look to appoint a new manager. Corberan could fit that bill given that he remains without a job following his resignation from Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

Corberan shocked the Championship when it was revealed that the Spaniard had decided to move on from the Terriers, particularly after the season they enjoyed last term. On one of the smallest budgets in the division, he guided them to within 90 minutes of the Premier League as they were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest in the play-off final.

Some reports after his Town exit had linked Corberan with a return to Leeds in some capacity, though the Whites confirmed the appointment of Michael Skubala as their new U21s head coach earlier this week, which is likely to put an end to that speculation.

That is the role that Corberan started in during his time at Elland Road, before eventually becoming the club’s assistant manager under Marcelo Bielsa. According to AS, though, Corberan may not have to wait too long for a top job at a club, with Olympiacos earmarking him as their first choice for the potential vacancy.
