Olly Murs Belfast gig cancelled after the singer undergoes "major knee surgery"

It promised to be one of the highlights of the summer but unfortunately Olly Murs has been forced to cancel his Belfast gig at Botanic Gardens.

Olly Murs announced this afternoon that he had undergone major knee surgery, and would be using the coming months for recovery.

The singer had a successful operation on his knee on Friday, and will now spend the next six months in rehab.

Sharing the news in a press release, the singer said: “I am absolutely gutted to have to cancel my summer tour this year, but unfortunately I’ve had to have new major knee surgery. I’m devastated I won’t be performing these shows, and can only apologise for any inconvenience caused. Rest assured I will be fighting fit for new music later this year!”

Elaborating on Twitter, Olly Murs added: "Been trying my best to avoid having it done but the op was needed and it went well. I’m recovering in hospital but it means I’m having to cancel all my summer shows this year whilst I focus on my rehab. Refunds will all be available from your point of purchase and please keep an eye out for any emails from your ticketing agent over the next few days."

Olly Murs, who first came to prominence when he finished second on the sixth season of the X-Factor, has risen to become one of the UK's most recognisable pop stars.

The singer was set to perform at Botanic Gardens in Belfast on June 10th.

Refunds for the concert will be available from the point of purchase. Ticket holders are asked to keep an eye out for any emails from their ticketing agent.
