Olivier Boscagli makes PSV defence admission ahead of Rangers Champions League clash

Olivier Boscagli admits PSV Eindhoven will have to produce a ‘perfect’ defensive performance if they are to shut out Rangers and clinch a Champions League berth.

The Dutch giants head into the second leg of the play-off round fixture as favourites to progress to the group stage following a 2-2 draw at Ibrox last week.

Goals from Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo were not enough to secure a home win for Rangers as Michael Beale’s side were twice pegged back in an entertaining affair.

Rangers converted a first leg stalemate into a famous win at this stage of the competition 12 months ago as they ended their long wait for a Champions League return.

Boscagli is fighting to prove his fitness after being replaced in the closing stages last week and the defender knows Peter Bosz’s side cannot afford to give the Rangers attack any encouragement at the Philips Stadion.

Boscagli said: “We didn’t have a game at the weekend so that helped us to recover more. We have had a week to train and prepare so we will be ready.

“Personally, I have only trained a few days and this session is the most important for me.

“I have talked with the coach and we will take no risk. If I am not 100 per cent sure I can play in this game then I won’t do it.

“We saw in the first leg in Glasgow that Rangers were really compact.

“They let us play the ball and tried to play on the counter-attack with some fast guys up at the front.

“But we are focusing on our own style of football. We aim to cut out the mistakes we made in the last game.

“We will try and play the ball forward as fast as possible and create out chances. But our defence has to be perfect because we took some risks in the last game.

“All our games are important but everybody knows this is the game we have to win.

“In the last few years we were not good enough win these games.

“But we now have to show we are at the level to play in the Champions League this season.”
