Hollywood actress and director Olivia Wilde has been fined after being caught speeding days after she was served with custody papers on stage.
The 38-year-old star broke the 30mph limit on the North Circular in Ealing in May while at the wheel of an Audi.
According to court papers, the car was travelling at 37mph and Wilde admitted she was driving when contacted by police. The case was dealt with behind closed doors last week at Lavender Hill magistrates’ court, through the single justice procedure.
Wilde was given three penalty points and ordered to pay a £220 fine plus £90 costs and a £34 victim surcharge. Wilde, the star of films including Tron: Legacy and The Lazarus Effect as well as TV shows Vinyl, The OC, and House, gave former boyfriend Harry Styles’s £3.7 million mansion in Hampstead as her home address.
She began dating Styles after they met on the set of her second film as director, Don’t Worry Darling, in which the singer and actor starred opposite Florence Pugh and Chris Pine.
However, Wilde and Styles’s romance came to an end last month, after nearly two years together. The offence happened when they were still dating and spending time in London. Wilde’s car was caught by a speed camera at 8.06am on May 5 at Hangar Lane.
The star, who told police she holds an American driving licence, did not enter a plea to the speeding charge or submit any mitigation, a court official disclosed.
The incident happened just over a week after she was served with custody papers on stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas during a speech about the film Don’t Worry Darling.
Wilde later complained that former fiancé Jason Sudeikis had orchestrated the incident to cause humiliation, as they are embroiled in a wrangle over the parenting arrangements for their two children. Sudeikis’ representatives said he did not know Wilde would be served with papers on stage.
Wilde, the director of 2019 hit film Booksmart who joined forces with Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page last year to help launch the Audi Q4 e-tron, did not have to attend court over the speeding offence. She was found guilty by a single magistrate and sentenced last Monday.
