Olivia Rodrigo, the Grammy-winning artist, made headlines during her recent St. Louis GUTS world tour stop by distributing free condoms and morning-after pills to concert attendees. A portion of the total ticket sales from her tour will be allocated to support abortion funds across the country through her new initiative, Fund 4 Good.
Through Fund 4 Good, Rodrigo has partnered with local chapters of the National Network of Abortion Funds to ensure access to reproductive care for individuals facing systemic racism, misogyny, and healthcare barriers. The initiative aims to provide support to communities in need of reproductive healthcare services.
At the St. Louis concert, Rodrigo collaborated with the Missouri Abortion Fund to distribute Julie morning-after pills. The brand, launched in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, focuses on destigmatizing emergency contraception and expanding access to underserved communities.
Following the event, a fan shared a photo on social media showing emergency contraceptive pill boxes with a sticker that read, 'Funding abortions? It's a good idea, right?' referencing Rodrigo's song 'bad idea right?'
In addition to providing contraceptives at her shows, Rodrigo has set up National Network of Abortion Funds tables at each tour location to raise awareness and support the critical work of abortion funds.
Oriaku Njoku, the Executive Director of the National Network of Abortion Funds, emphasized the importance of supporting abortion funds in the current climate of attacks on abortion access. Njoku expressed excitement about partnering with Rodrigo to advance the movement towards reproductive freedom.
Rodrigo has been vocal about women's rights in the past, notably dedicating a performance at Glastonbury Festival to the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. Her advocacy for reproductive rights and support for abortion funds reflect her commitment to social justice causes.
