Olivia Colman Peep Show memes: Twitter reacts to Oscars Best Actress win with hilarious GIFs and tweets

Olivia Colman is fast becoming Hollywood royalty – but to a legion of fans she will always be Peep Show's Sophie Chapman.

So much so that soon after The Favourite star accepted her shock Oscar win, the cult comedy series that propelled her to fame was trending on Twitter.

Fans congratulated Colman for her Best Actress gong, including former co-star and on-screen husband David Mitchell, who played the hapless Mark Corrigan.

He wrote: "Oh my God! That’s amazing! And what a brilliant speech! #OliviaColman."

Robert Webb, who played Jeremy Usborne, added: "WHOOP! Congratulations to the brilliant & glorious #OliviaColman."

Fans felt sure that the award was recognition for the comedy series as much as it was for Colman herself, and shared some hilarious gifs and memes to accompany their congratulations.

Colman struggled to compose herself as she accepted the Best Actress gong for her role as Queen Anne in Oscar-nominated comedy The Favourite.

She branded the moment “stressful” and “hilarious” before blowing a raspberry on being told to hurry up with her speech.

Joking that this moment will “never happen again”, Colman thanked her children Finn, 14 and Hall, 12 adding that she “hopes” they’re still awake to see her take the award.

She also paid tribute to her husband Ed Sinclair who she hailed her “best friend” and “best supporter”.
