Olivia Attwood quit booze ahead of gruelling training for ITV show The Games

Former Love Island star Olivia Attwood admits she quit the booze for three months ahead of competing in new Olympic-style show The Games.

The reality star is one of 12 hopefuls who have signed up to take part in the new show which sees uber-fit celebrities going head-to-head across a week of live programmes.

And ahead of the action The Mirror's Jess Boulton caught up with Olivia, alongside Harry Potter actor Josh Herdman and Mel B's daughter Phoenix Brown for a live chat from Crystal Palace stadium.

Olivia admits the show has been challenging from the off, but the stars appear in good spirits as they are excited now the show is ready to launch tonight.

Olivia, 31, said: :"I think just the sheer volume of what we are doing. It's a lot physically and mentally.

Josh, 35, added: ''It's hard adjusting. Absorbing different information every day. We are juggling a lot."

And the gruelling schedule which has seen the stars take on multiple sports across seven hour days training sessions has taken its toll on their bodies.

In preparation for the show Olivia says she quit the booze three months ago but is still the 'naughty one' when it comes to eating the odd burger despite their healthy eating goals.

She added:"I ditched the booze because I knew I wouldn't be able to sustain this schedule with a hangover.

"I feel amazing. I've realised that there are no benefits to drinking but yet I can't wait to have a drink at the end."

Josh gave an insight into a typical training day, explaining: "Sprint training in the morning, javelin in the afternoon and hurdles in the evening.

"The professionals are coming up to us saying, 'How are you doing three sports in one day?'"

He added: "The build up that's the part I find the hardest. Now it's here I just want to enjoy it."

Olivia admits that all the training hasn't come without injury as she hurt her shoulder doing hurdles and is waiting for the doctors to give the go-ahead but is hopeful that she will be able to compete.

She told Jess: "I'm going to take part in the warm up and then talk to the doctors, get some strapping on it."

Josh says all the contestants bodies are being plagued but 'niggles' and he's suffered hamstring injury and sprains.

Phoenix, 23, chipped in:"Everyday is a new day, we put bandaids on and we're good to go."

The show has thrust the stars together and the group have formed a close bond but admit the fact they are competing hasn't changed the dynamics but less banter as they 'up their game' for the first live show.

Phoenix explains: "We are all very friendly but we are competitive."

Olivia is quick to share: "The boys are more competitive.

Phoenix added: ''We all definitely want to win. It's got a little bit less friendly, less talking."

Speaking of ones to watch in the line up Christine and Kevin are highlighted by their peers.

Josh, who is now a MMA cage fighter alongside his acting career, added: "Clifton is a dark horse.

Phoenix chimed in: "Christine and Chelsea. Christine says I know I can do it, and then she just does it."

But Olivia, who says she's enjoying diving the most, said: "Even the favourites in training it all comes down to on the night."

She added: "I'm in my own zone now, I just want to get through and do myself proud.

''We laugh every day despite the fact it's a serious competition. There's no one I want to impale on a javelin yet.

"It's only day one!"

Other contestants taking part include ex-Strictly pro and leading man Kevin Clifton, pop star Max George, song writer Chelcee Grimes, model and autism ambassador Christine McGuinness, Coronation Street actor Colson Smith, newsreader Lucrezia Millarini, musician and TV star Wes Nelson, Emmerdale actor Rebecca Sarker and actor Ryan Thomas.
