Oliver Skipp to sign new Tottenham contract with midfielder finally poised for injury return

Oliver Skipp is set to sign a new long-term contract with Tottenham this week ahead of his proposed return to training.

The 21-year-old's current deal expires in 2024 but he has been offered an extension and improved terms with the club he has been with since the age of five.

After spending last season on loan at Norwich, Skipp has established himself as a regular for Spurs and his absence with a groin injury since January has frustrated head coach Antonio Conte.

The Italian said on Friday that the midfielder was "very, very close" to returning to training and he is expected to rejoin the group by the end of the week.

Skipp has not played since the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on January 23, having been told to rest by specialists due to a difficult pelvic issue.

His return would be a boost for Conte ahead of the run-in, as Spurs battle with Arsenal to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.

Skipp had established himself in the team under Conte before his injury and his return would give the Italian another midfield option.

In his absence, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has formed a decent partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur in a team that has won three straight games in the Premier League.
