Oliver Skipp opens up on injury nightmare after signing new Tottenham contract

Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp has opened up on his injury nightmare.

The 21-year-old signed a new contract running until the summer of 2027 after establishing himself as a key player in the first-team following a successful loan spell with Norwich City last season.

What had been a breakthrough campaign, however, has been derailed by injury.

Skipp suffered a fresh setback in his attempts to return from a long-term pelvis problem earlier this month and his return date remains unclear.

The midfielder’s last game came back in late January and although Rodrigo Bentancur has impressed, Conte has repeatedly urged Spurs’ medical staff to ensure Skipp is available before the end of the season.

Tottenham face a battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League with Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham all vying for the Premier League’s coveted fourth spot.

After penning a new contract with the club he joined at the age of five, Skipp opened up on his injury problems.

“I don’t know if you remember the third or fourth game of the season with England,” he said.

“I came back, I think it was the Palace game so it dates quite far back in terms of having a problem but I’d been managing to get through it.

“Come the international break, I had an injection which other players have had in the past and the hope was that the original pain would go but that’s not been the case.

“There’s been various times where I felt like I was I getting there but with the nature of this injury it hasn’t materialised that I’ve come back yet.

“It’s been a really frustrating one for me, the most difficult part of it is being in the unknown.”
