Oliver Glasner admitted his sadness for his Crystal Palace players that their “positive” performance against Manchester City nevertheless ended with defeat.
Palace took the lead after just four minutes against title-chasers City but lost 4-2 at Selhurst Park, leaving them winless under Glasner since his first match in charge when they beat Burnley 3-0 on February 24.
A second defeat in four days kept Palace 14th in the table, but Glasner was encouraged by the performance of his players against last season’s Treble winners.
The Austrian said: “It’s difficult today because we lost 4-2 and I’m never satisfied with that result, but I could see many positive things today from our game.
“We scored an excellent first goal but the equaliser [came] too fast. We could see their [City’s] dominance in possession but we always looked to be dangerous.
“I’m a little bit sad for the players because they invested so much today. Our challenge is to keep this physical and mental level top for 95 minutes. The result is disappointing again and results are important, but it’s good for me to see the players progressing.”
Glasner added: “If we do our job on a high level, we are competitive against any team.
“I’m really pleased with the energy we had, the whole stadium had, the fans had even when we were 4-1 down.
“The substitutes brought in new energy and we scored a nice second goal. It could have been but has not been. The performance, in many situations, was really good. But to concede four goals is too much.”
