Oliver Abildgaard completes Celtic transfer as he pens season-long loan deal to become NINTH summer signing at champions

Oliver Abildgaard has completed his move to Celtic on a season-long loan deal to become the ninth summer signing of a busy summer transfer window for the champions who have further strengthened in their title defence bid.

The 26-year-old’s transfer brings to an end Ange Postecoglou’s summer-long search for a defensive midfielder. Abildgaard came through the youth ranks at Aalborg where he spent five years before joining Rubin Kazan on loan. He then joined the Russian club on a permanent deal two years ago but was keen to move on following his adopted homeland’s invasion of Ukraine.

Abildgaard joins former Rubin Kazan team-mates Carl Starfelt and Sead Haksabanovic at Parkhead after a club statement confirmed the transfer. It read: "Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Danish midfielder, Oliver Abildgaard on a season-long deal, subject to international clearance. "The 26-year-old, who has played in the Russian Premier League with Rubin Kazan and with Aalborg in the Danish Superliga, has also been capped by Denmark.

"Oliver is our ninth signing of the summer transfer window and everyone at Celtic is delighted to welcome Oliver to the Club.
