Oli Shaw joins Barnsley for undisclosed fee from Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock have announced the departure of Oli Shaw.

The striker has joined Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old signed for the Rugby park outfit 18-months-ago from Ross County.

He made a huge contribution to the club's immediate promotion back to the Premiership by finishing the club's top scorer in the Championship last term. Shaw found the net on 16 occasions.

However, he's fallen down the pecking order under Derek McInnes in the top flight this term.

Now, he moves to League One, with Barnsley finally getting their man.

A club statement reads: "Kilmarnock Football Club can confirm that Oli Shaw has departed to join EFL League One side Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

"The club would like to thank Oli for his substantial contribution to a Championship-winning campaign, in which he finished as the club’s top scorer.

"Throughout the season, Oli found the net on 16 occasions, including a memorable 89th minute winner at Somerset Park in October 2021.

"Everyone at Rugby Park would like to wish Oli the very best of luck in the next stage of his career."

The news comes a matter of hours after Kyle Lafferty's shock exit from Killie.

The Northern Ireland international departed the Rugby Park club on deadline day by mutual consent.

A club statement confirmed that the 35-year-old has left the Ayrshire side with immediate effect.

It reads: "It’s with regret that Kyle Lafferty and Kilmarnock Football Club have parted company by mutual consent. We thank Kyle for his service to the club."

Derek McInnes is now working hard on bringing in another striker before tonight's January window deadline. The window shuts at midnight.

It's believed the club are still working on doing business in the remaining hours.

Lafferty first joined Killie around two-years-ago for his first spell at the club.

It ultimately ended in relegation with Tommy Wright, despite displaying some free scoring form.

He returned last January and helped fire the club to instant promotion back to the Premiership by winning the Championship title.

Things haven't exactly worked out this season so far for either Lafferty or Killie.

The club sit bottom of the table heading into tomorrow night's crunch battle against Dundee United.
