Oleksandr Zinchenko in fresh Ukraine plea as Manchester City star calls on USA and NATO to 'close the sky' to Russia

Man City star Oleksandr Zinchenko has joined a campaign calling on NATO and the USA to "close the sky" above Ukraine.

The harrowing Russian invasion is continuing in Zinchenko's homeland with Vladimir Putin showing no signs of ending it yet despite substantial sanctions from the west.

UEFA and FIFA have both banned Russia from all of their competitions with City 's Zinchenko one of football's most prominent voices in support of the Ukrainian people.

But he along with a number of other high-profile Ukrainians feel more needs to be done - starting with meaningful action from the US Government and NATO.

In an impassioned Instagram plea, Zinchenko joined with a number of Ukrainian celebrities including musician Nata Zhyzhchenko, tennis player Sergiy Stakhovskiy and former footballer Serhiy Rebrov to call for the skies above the country to be marked as a no-fly zone, in a bid to stop bombings and aerial attacks from the bordering country.

In a joint statement they said: "Neither Europe or the rest of the world will be immune to the consequences of Russia's brutality and devastation.

"The Russian dictator has promised to wipe Ukraine off the earth because it poses a serious threat to his tyranny.

"The US and its allies can help save thousands of civilians including children threatened by bombshells.

"Help us to stop the enemy. Close the sky to help us destroy the Russian military aircrafts and drones before they attack our homes.

"A near nuclear catastrophe by the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant overrun by russian tanks is a clear eyed reminder that neither Europe nor the rest of the world will be immune to the consequences of Russia's brutality and devastation.

"We don't ask to send your troops here. Everyone in Ukraine is asking NATO to close the sky."

A no-fly zone has been repeatedly ruled out by NATO and the US, who have said they will not risk entering a direct military conflict with Russia.
