Old Firm WAGs approached by TV company to make real-life Footballers’ Wives show

Old Firm WAGs have been approached by a TV production company to take part in a reality show about their lives.

Mentorn, which makes Question Time and Robot Wars, wants to develop a series following the wives and girlfriends of Rangers and Celtic players.

Producers have contacted a number of names they hope will sign up for the real-life Footballers’ Wives.

It’s understood Mentorn wants to make the programme for BBC Scotland.

Some of the WAGs they approached thought the proposal was a “hoax” and alerted Ibrox and Parkhead chiefs about it.

It’s believed the players and clubs are both reluctant for the women to get involved. The proposed documentary has been described as a “celebratory, fun show” featuring “the glamour and aspirational lives of successful, attractive women who are partnered to the players who are such a vital part of the city”.

A source said: “The contacts were made by email or social media.

“The women thought it might be a hoax at first and told their partners who then contacted their club.

“They all talk and socialise together. Most of them have made it clear it’s not something they’re interested in doing. Being the other half of a Rangers or Celtic player can be hard enough even at the best of times.

“They can rarely walk back to their car after a bad result without fans having a pop or some so-called banter.

“For them to then feature in a television series would give fans all over the country ammunition. It would be a surprise if any of them were interested in taking part in this project.”

Last night, a Mentorn spokeswoman said no one was available to discuss the matter.

Footballers’ Wives was a TV drama surrounding a fictional Premier League club shown on ITV between 2002 and 2006.

Last month we told how Mentorn’s proposals for a fly-on-the-wall documentary about Kilmarnock Sheriff Court were being thwarted by defence solicitors.

Lawyers refused to take part in a programme amid fears it would become a repeat of The Scheme. The BBC’s 2010 series followed the lives of six families on deprived estates in Kilmarnock and was criticised as “poverty porn”.

With the Old Firm WAGs being offered their own reality show we take a look at the Rangers and Celtic wives and girlfriends who could be heading for TV stardom.

Rangers

Yesenia Herrera, 25

The Colombian beauty queen is married to hot-headed Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and they have a very cute one-year-old daughter Leonela, who features frequently on her doting dad’s Instagram.

Yesenia has almost 20,000 followers on Instagram, who will no doubt enjoy her penchant for designer clothing.

Often, she’s clad in Gucci – but she isn’t afraid to don a football top and support her man too.

The couple are known for their extravagant celebrations as every month leading up to Leonela’s first birthday, they threw mini “month parties” for their first born.

Yesenia and her love all things designer would be sure to bring some Latino spice to the reality show.

Coleen Rowland, 32

The former model who has been touted as one of “the world’s sexiest WAGs” wed Gers and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey in 2014 and they have three children together.

Colleen, who is from Cardiff, doesn’t seem to promote the glam lifestyle that many WAGs do.

Instead, she uses social media to share sweet family snaps of their seven-year-old son Sonny and four-year-old twins Tommy and Teddy, as well as endless pictures and videos showing her impressive cooking skills.

Colleen is the Nigella Lawson of the WAG world and would be a delicious addition to the cast.

Tracey Davis, 35

The stunning brunette has been married to Rangers midfielder and Northern Ireland international Steven Davis for 12 years and they have three children together.

The pair were childhood sweethearts and the Gers player has put his success on the field down to the support he has received along the way from his wife.

Glamorous Tracey, who is from Kilrea in County Londonderry, often appears on her hubby’s Instagram with their daughters Chloe and Kaia and son Cobi.

A glimpse into their happy family life would make great viewing.

Melissa Tavernier, 30

The stunning businesswoman married Rangers right-back James Tavernier back in 2018, and the couple have an adorable son and daughter.

On their first wedding anniversary James, who has more than 185k Instagram followers posted a gushing tribute to Melissa - calling her his rock and his queen.

The glamorous mum has her own nail salon business, NAIL B.A.S.E.DELUXE which is popular with social media followers.

Melissa would be a dazzling signing for show producers.

Cheryl Dunn, 43

The mum-of-two married the Rangers goalie Allan McGregor in 2020 in an intimate wedding on the banks of Loch Lomond.

The pretty self-made property magnate seems to have tamed the Scotland international who has had a colourful dating past and made headlines in 2015 when he called off his wedding to then fiancée Leah Shevlin just days before the big day.

Cheryl and Allan’s homelife would be sure to make good telly - there never seems to be a dull moment when Greegsy is around.

Celtic

Kimberly Crew, 38

The former beautician dated Hoops goalie and ex-England international Joe Hart for six years before tying the knot in Florence, Italy, back in June 2015. The pair have one child together - eight-year-old Harlow.

After years as a high profile WAG, Kimberly has been no stranger to a catfight or two - and her most famous row has been with Katie Price.

The former glamour model wrote a VERY cryptic message aimed at Joe Hart on Twitter, just hours before his wedding suggesting they had history.

But Kimberly was having none of it and allegedly called Price a “clueless bimbo.” Sounds like Kim would be the straight-talking alpha female a reality show would benefit from.

Charlotte Jullien, 28

The former Moulin Rouge dancer can-canned her way into the heart of Celtic defender Christopher Jullien 11 years ago and they have a young son together.

Trained ballerina Charlotte met the footballer when she was working at Disneyland Paris and the pair have been inseparable ever since.

The Welsh beauty, who taught Christopher how to speak English, would be an extremely glamorous signing for the Footballers’ Wives-esque show.

Oliva Philbin, 29

Blonde beauty Olivia has been dating Republic of Ireland and Hoops midfielder James McCarthy for at least four years.

The couple share a two-year-old son, Blaine, together.

After graduation from the University of Glasgow with a Masters degree in July 2018, James gushed that his other half was “not just a pretty face”.

In her down time, Olivia enjoys soaking up the sunshine on glam holidays with snaps from Dubai and Los Angeles on her social media so her foreign adventures would make for great viewing.

Lana Milholjevic, 25

Lana is the stunning partner of Croatian international and Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic and the pair are one of Instagram’s cutest and most loved-up couples.

The duo have shared plenty of cute pictures together on Instagram.

Many of them are from romantic holidays, while more show the pair loved up in Warsaw at Christmas.

There are even some videos of the display of balloons, flower petals, food spread and wine Lana laid out for Juranovic on Valentine’s Day.

Viewers would take great delight to see if there will be wedding bells ringing.

Laura Macfarlane, 24

The striking nurse, from Greenock, is the childhood sweetheart of Scotland International and Hoops full-back Greg Taylor and her Instagram is filled with pictures of the smitten duo.

During the pandemic Greg spoke about how proud he was of Laura and her colleagues, who were bravely manning the frontline in the nation’s fight against Covid. He said he felt humbled to be her partner.

This super-adorable homegrown couple would give the show an awe-factor, especially if it highlights Laura’s inspirational work for the NHS.
