Ola’s Roadster X Electric Motorcycle Is Real, and It’s Ready To Hit India’s Roads

Ola Electric is a name you’ve already probably heard of, even if its operations are confined solely to the Indian market for now. It has managed to capture global attention thanks to its affordable and tech-loaded EV scooters, and now, it’s venturing into the motorcycle world, too.

It all started with the S1 scooter, a sleek, minimalist, and high-tech machine that brought electric mobility to the masses—and I mean the masses. Priced south of $1,000 USD in India, it was cheaper than a lot of entry-level ICE scooters, all while boasting low maintenance costs and an impressive amount of tech.

Clearly, the S1 was just the start for Ola, and now, it’s pulled the covers off the Roadster X, its first full-fledged electric motorcycle.

Unveiled on a live video stream on Ola’s official YouTube channel, the theme of the launch was all about “ending the ICE age,” that’s to say, the Internal Combustion Engine age. And indeed, given how affordably this thing is priced, it might do just that, or at least be a major contributing factor to this change.

The base Roadster X carries an introductory price of Rs 74,999, or about $900 USD—that’s cheaper than some entry-level electric bicycles sold in the US. Meanwhile, the bigger 3.5 kWh version carries an introductory price of Rs 84,999 (around $1,025 USD). Meanwhile, the biggest 4.5 kWh variant of the Roadster X has an introductory price of Rs 94,999 (roughly $1,150 USD).

But the Roadster X isn’t the cream of the crop here. Ola also unveiled the Roadster X+, a more premium, up-spec version of the Roadster. In its base trim, the Roadster X+ is equipped with a 4.5 kWh battery, while the top-tier model gets a massive 9.1 kWh unit promising an insane range of 311 miles on a single charge. It’s priced at Rs 104,999 ($1,275 USD) and Rs 154,999 (approx. $1,880 USD), respectively—still crazy value for money.

Bookings for the new electric motorcycle opened in India on the day of the launch on February 5, 2025. And with prices like these, expect there to be quite a waitlist for the new machine. Range aside, the Roadster X is decked out in quite an impressive array of tech. It gets an LCD instrument cluster, LED lighting, single-channel ABS, and an interesting brake-by-wire system—definitely something we’ll be keeping an eye on. Other amenities include cruise control and even a reverse mode for easy parking in tight spaces.

But going beyond just the Roadster X, Ola says that the bike is built atop a modular platform that allows it to be mixed and matched in multiple configurations. The subframe is also removable, allowing for a wide selection of models in the near future.

So yeah, Ola’s clearly blazing a trail with the new Roadster X, seemingly achieving the impossible by building something so capable and yet so affordable. But the question remains: is it good enough for the global market? Well, Ola certainly thinks so, and with its plans for international expansion, there’s a chance that this thing will make its global debut sooner than later.

Nevertheless, the real test will be how it performs in the real world. And whether or not it can live up to the hype is something only time itself can answer.
