During Oklahoma City Thunder exit interviews on Tuesday, plenty of players and head coach Mark Daigneault spoke about the team’s rebuild, this included coining tanking as “The Plan.” Coaches and players will never be upfront about tanking in public due to the heavy negative connotation and scrutiny it will bring, but the Thunder were as close as one can get when it comes to discussing tanking with the comments some made on Tuesday.
When asked about the level of transparency Thunder GM Sam Presti provides to the team on what the long-term plan is and how the franchise will handle its rebuild, everybody raved about how they are not left in the dark. Of course, nobody outright said that the team knows the franchise is tanking for high lottery picks, but reading between the lines will give someone the context clues necessary to draw that conclusion.
