OKC Thunder news: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out for remainder of the season

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault announced on Monday that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss the remaining eight games of the regular season.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been dealing with right ankle soreness for the last several games with the designation of questionable during that period. This comes the same day that the Thunder announced that Darius Bazley will miss the rest of the regular season due to a knee fracture.

Daigneault also mentioned that the decision to sit Gilgeous-Alexander out for the last eight games was a collaborative effort between the Thunder and him as both parties came to the conclusion that this was the best decision to make.

With the regular season just a little over two weeks away from wrapping up, there’s no point in further risking Gilgeous-Alexander’s health as he is well established as the best player on the team.

Gilgeous-Alexander will finish the season averaging 24.5 points, five rebounds and 5.9 assists in 56 games this season.

Daigneault also mentioned that Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who is returning from a fractured foot, will come off the bench and play limited minutes. Daigneault also mentioned that he wants to see Robinson-Earl play a little bit more power forward.
