The Organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) and the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL) have welcomed the decision of the UN Security Council to classify Yemen’s Houthi militias as a terrorist group.

The Jeddah-based OIC expressed hope that this decision would contribute to putting an end to the terrorist acts of the Houthis.

OIC also renewed its support for exerted efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis based on the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue conference and UN Security Council relevant resolutions, including Resolution 2216.

The Security Council on Monday also imposed an arms embargo on the Iran-backed militias.

Secretary-General of MWL Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa hailed Security Council members for assuming their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, and cutting off the path to supplying the militias with funds and weapons.

He expressed hope that the resolution would contribute to supporting the endeavors of the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen and end the coup led by the terrorist Houthis.
