Ohio State University is being sued by several parents of students who allege that an on-campus dormitory had incredibly poor living conditions that put the health of students living there at risk.

One OSU dorm building, Lawrence Tower, allegedly had mushrooms sprouting out of its walls. Students also found mold in the ceilings and HVAC units, reported ABC 6.

Previously, OSU claimed that a plumbing leak caused conditions in about 40 dorm rooms in Lawrence Tower to deteriorate, stating that the students in affected rooms had been relocated. (Credit: Ohio State University)

The parents of over 30 OSU students have filed a lawsuit against the university, referring to Lawrence Tower as a "toxic time bomb" and stating that students residing there experienced increasingly concerning physical symptoms, including brain fog and respiratory symptoms. The lawsuit is reportedly seeking $1,000 per student.

"No parent of a first-year college student should wonder whether his or her child will be subjected to a sickening, mold-infested dorm," the lawsuit states.

Previously, OSU claimed that a plumbing leak caused conditions in about 40 dorm rooms in Lawrence Tower to deteriorate, stating that the students in affected rooms had been relocated. They further claimed that precautions were being taken to protect the remaining students.

According to the lawsuit, Lawrence Tower is a "Rate 1" dorm room, meaning parents paid extra to have their kids reside there. The building, which used to be a hotel, was purchased and renovated by OSU in 2009.
