Ohio State places five players on 247Sports top 100 players in college football

Star power is what you need to compete for championships, and if 247Sports is correct, the Ohio State Football team will have enough of it during the 2023 season.

The Buckeyes placed five players on the site’s top 100 list. More than a few of them we expected to be on the list. The bigger question was how high did they rank?

Blake Brockermeyer, who put together the rankings, along with the help of his cohorts at 247Sports, started the procedure with around 200 candidates, so more than a few players who weren’t selected were on his mind.

Find out below where each Ohio State star ranked and what Brockermeyer said about them.

No. 2 - Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Adam Cairns-The Columbus Dispatch

Brockermeyer’s rationale

“Perhaps the top wide receiver in school history, from an elite list of playmakers. Future All-Pro.”

What we say

You could make the argument that Harrison Jr. is the most exciting and best player in college football. Can a wide receiver get the love that he should? Let’s hope it’s a healthy and productive year for Harrison Jr.

No. 15 - Wide receiver Emeka Egbuka

Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Brockenmeyer’s rationale

“Would be WR1 on 99.9% of teams. Versatile to play anywhere on the field. Elite player who will be first-rounder in April.”

What we say

Egbuka would get more publicity if he didn’t share the field with Harrison Jr. However, when it’s all said and done, he might go down statistically as one of the best to play the receiver position at Ohio State. He’s really good and should be this high on the list for sure.

No. 47 - Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg

Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Brockenmeyer’s rationale

“A throwback football player who has a nose for the ball and is an excellent tackler. Is a leader and the heart of the Ohio State defense.”

What we say

You could make the case for Eichenberg to be higher on this list. He is really the heart and soul of the Buckeye defense, and he could have a monster year with other parts of the unit stepping up to take some pressure off his position.

No. 66 - Edge J.T. Tuimoloau

USA TODAY Sports

Brockenmeyer’s rationale

”A playmaker from the edge who had some big moments in 2022. His Penn State performance was one for the books. I’m expecting a bigger leap in 2023.”

What we say

Tuimoloau is a hard player to rank because he could break out in a major way this season, much like what we saw from Chase Young, and become something special. Either way, he’s sure to have some big moments in 2023.

No. 88 - Running back TreVeyon Henderson

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Brockenmeyer’s rationale

“Betting that the 2021 version show up this season, healthy and a problem for opposing defenses. A fluid back with great vision and speed.”

What we say

Henderson is another guy that could end up being better than this ranking. In fact, had he not had to deal with injuries all of last year, he would probably be known as one of the most electric players coming back in all of college football. All indications are that he looks fast and back to 100%, so look out for some explosive plays from him this fall.
