Ohio State moves near the top of team recruiting rankings after Tate commitment

Recruiting. It’s the lifeblood of any college football program and Ohio State does it better than almost everyone. Identifying and luring the best high school talent has always been a strength of a program like OSU, but it’s been even better under Urban Meyer and Ryan Day.

And despite a rather ho-hum start to the 2023 recruiting cycle, the Buckeyes were still hanging around in the top five. And now, after the verbal commitment of 5-star wide receiver Carnell Tate, Ohio State had moved all the way up to No. 2 in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings for 2023.

The Buckeyes now have a total of 11 commitments with an average of 93.39 per player and a total score of 215.82, considerably behind No. Notre Dame, which has a total score of 251.59 with its 15 commitments (92.72 average).

Teams rounding out the top five behind the Irish and Buckeyes are Georgia, Texas Tech, Clemson, Penn State, Cincinnati, Northwestern, Arkansas, and USC.
