The first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2023 season dropped Tuesday, and the Ohio State Buckeyes opened with the No. 1 spot. The Buckeyes are one of eight remaining undefeated teams going into Week 10’s games, and their most notable wins so far were against Notre Dame and Penn State.
Other undefeated teams include Georgia, Michigan and Florida State, which respectively round out the playoff committee’s initial top four. If the playoff committee were deciding today, Washington and Oregon would be the two teams just missing the cut.
Air Force is including in the rankings for the first time in program history, coming in at No. 25 and the one of two Group of Five teams on the list, along with No. 24 Tulane.
Of course, there’s still plenty of football to be played this season, and the rankings could change a lot. Here’s a look at the College Football Playoff committee’s first rankings for 2023.
New playoff rankings will drop every Tuesday until conference championship weekend, and the playoff selection committee will make its final picks for the top-4 teams the following Sunday, December 3.
