In sad news, it was reported that freshman wide receiver, Carnell Tate, lost his mother last night. She was the victim of an apparent drive-by shooting. The incident was been confirmed by WGN in Chicago.
While details have not been released, Tate’s mother, Ashley Griggs, lived in Chicago where the tragedy occurred.
By all accounts, Griggs was heavily involved in her son’s recruitment process and was proud of him beyond measure. A simple look at her Twitter page reveals posts and retweets about Carnell’s accomplishments and the many wonderful things being written about her son.
Tate has been showing out in practice since arriving on campus in January. He became the earliest freshman to ever lose his black stripe and put on a show in the annual spring Scarlet and Gray game.
