The Ohio State Buckeyes sustained their first loss of the season Saturday. They had their first real challenge of the year against the now-No. 2 Oregon Ducks on the road.
The Ducks, who only trail the Texas Longhorns, won 32-31 in a rocking Autzen Stadium. For Ohio State, with the defeat, it dropped to No. 5 in the AP Poll and is the second one-loss team, only behind No. 4 Georgia.
Three Big Ten programs crack the current top five.
As for the Buckeyes, with the extended 12-team playoffs, they are still set to make it and have a first-round battle. The first four seeds get a bye. USA Today went ahead and put out a prediction of the first round, and they have the Buckeyes facing the Clemson Tigers.
In this scenario that they have laid out, the winner of the Tigers-Buckeyes would face the Ducks, and while it can be just a dream for fans now, this would be the perfect revenge for Ryan Day and Ohio State.
That said, the season is still very young with No. 3 Penn State on the road and Michigan at home still on the schedule for the Buckeyes. Expect these to change weekly moving forward.
