For a little while, everyone was ready to shout to the mountaintops that the Ohio State football program was headed for a recruiting decline. OSU had a bit of a slow start to the 2024 cycle, and our friends in Michigan were beating their chests because the Wolverines were looking fine as wine and ahead of the Buckeyes in almost every recruiting services’ team rankings.
Until now.
That ship seems to have sailed with the tide of this week, washing up on the shores of the banks of the Olentangy. In fact, over the last few calendar days, Ohio State gained commitments from two highly sought twin offensive linemen in the state, a top-five national running back, and now another five-star receiver on Tuesday evening.
The result has been a sharp rise in the team recruiting rankings. In fact, according to the On3 industry team recruiting rankings, Ohio State is No. 2 after the latest pledges, ahead of Alabama, Florida, and yes — Michigan — which is No. 5 in the team race. Only Georgia is ranked above the Buckeyes.

And the recruiting outlook is looking even sunnier in the future because Ohio State is favored for a number of other high-profile recruits. Yes, the demise of the Buckeye recruiting machine seems to be only wishful thinking for many that were popping champagne corks and drinking in the perceived misery in Columbus.
