Ohio State diver Lyle Yost wins national title for second-straight year

Ohio State diver Lyle Yost is a national champion again.

Yost took home the title in the 1-meter competition on Thursday night to make it two-straight national championships for an OSU diver for the first time since the 1970’s. The event took place in Indianapolis as a part of the NCAA Championships and came after Yost finished in third place in the morning preliminaries with a score of 375.00.

He dominated in the final four rounds however and ended on top with a score of 433.55 and earned First Team All-American honors. Yost finished ahead of second-place finisher, Quentin Henninger, of Indiana by 8.35 points. OSU teammate, Clayton Chaplin, also had a solid showing, finishing in seventh place with a score of 355.35 points.

“Our divers are the toughest fighters in that pool,” said head diving coach Justin Sochor in a statement. “They are humble and strike hard with purpose. Ohio State has a rich history of diving success, and I am so proud to coach this group that is burning that Ohio State diving torch hotter than ever!”

Congrats are most definitely in order for Yost for a job well done.
