Ohio State close to releasing new turf design for Ohio Stadium

Back in the fall, the field turf at Ohio Stadium got some publicity after fans noted a worn look. The turf was last replaced in 2014, but the scarlet was giving an almost pink vibe from our HD televisions. As a result, the Buckeye brass decided the brand needed to look good and announced the surface would be replaced in time for the 2022 season. But that’s not all, the university said that fans could submit ideas in the process.

Now, here we are. It was announced via Twitter that it’s almost time to reveal what the new design will look like. A collage of many of those designs was posted to the Ohio State Athletics Twitter account and all we can say is fans definitely got creative.

Some are hoping to go all Boise State and make the turf predominantly color-filled, while others tried to stick to a more traditional look. Many submitted designs included an outline of the state at midfield and buckeye leaves scattered throughout.

Ohio State has not given any indication as to what the new turf will look like, but it seems that the fans have helped the creative process and will use at least some elements of the submitted designs. Take a look below to see some of the fan renderings.

It’s hard to imagine that Ohio State would stray too much from a traditional look, but we do expect there to be some changes that will stick out. Of course with any change, some will love it, some will hate it, but one thing is for sure, there will be no shortage of opinions for either side.
