Ohio State basketball head coach Chris Holtmann reacts to addition of USC and UCLA to Big Ten

Ever since the news dropped unexpectedly about USC and UCLA joining the Big Ten, the reaction has been swift and fierce. But for those in the Big Ten, as well as the two L.A. schools, the future arrangement was met with overwhelming excitement and positivity.

One of the people that was happy to see the west coast meet the midwest was Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann. According to quotes attributed to the Columbus Dispatch, he sees it as a mutually beneficial relationship that makes a lot of sense.

“I think it’s a really good move for the Big Ten,” Holtmann said in the Dispatch story. “I think it’s a really smart move by those two institutions given how things have changed and are going to continue to change in the next, say, 5-10 years. I think it makes sense for all parties in a lot of ways.

“Obviously, geographically, it’s not necessarily the (best) fit, but in every other way, it really fits the mission of the Big Ten. It makes a lot of sense in my mind. I can see why it was done, and I’m excited about it.”

There are obviously some major things with scheduling and travel that will need to be worked out, especially with basketball and other sports where the schedule of games and opponents is heavier, but there’s time for that.

We can now look forward to Ohio State playing in Pauley Pavillion, and for USC and UCLA traveling to play in the Schottenstein Center.

We love it, and hopefully, you do too.
