Ohio State basketball blows out Michigan

Nothing feels better than getting the best of your rival, even if it is down and out. That’s exactly what the Ohio State men’s basketball team did on Sunday in an 84-61 route in front of a home crowd, one that seems to be growing with the late season momentum.

The game was close mostly throughout with the last-place Wolverines staying within arm’s reach until midway through the second half when OSU went on a massive run to take control of the game. In fact, Michigan was within ten several points several times but couldn’t get things done as the clock got deeper.

The Buckeyes took just a five point lead into halftime, but the renewed energy and effort that we’ve seen since Chris Hotlmann was fired and interim head coach Jake Diebler took over really took hold and sent Michigan to its seventh-straight loss. The main catalyst was because of a 71% shooting performance from the field during the last twenty minutes.

Bruce Thornton led Ohio State with 17 points on 3-of-8 from the field along with a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Roddy Gayle Jr. (15) and Dale Bonner (10) were the only other two Buckeyes in double figures.

With the win, OSU improves its overall record to 18-12 and its Big Ten mark to 8-11. It has been quite the turnaround since mid-February. The Buckeyes have just one regular-season game left, one in which it can continue to amazingly put together a case for an at-large bid with a road trip to Rutgers next Sunday.
