Ohio State baseball coach, Greg Beals, out after 12 seasons

Ohio State has announced that it will be parting ways with head baseball coach, Greg Beals after 12 seasons at the helm. Beals replaced the long-tenured and fairly successful former Buckeye skipper, Bob Todd after Todd retired in 2010.

Beals never really caught on as the OSU head coach. In 12 seasons, Beals managed to keep his overall winning percentage above .500, but not by much. And Big Ten play was even worse as the Buckeyes were just 141-139 in the conference. In comparison, Todd had an overall record of 901-477-2 in 23 seasons in scarlet and gray.

Even though Beal won two Big Ten titles and advanced to the regionals in 2016, 2018, and 2019, the Buckeyes have been lackluster for the greater part of the coach’s tenure. Ohio State finished near the bottom of the conference this past season going 8-14 and 21-30 overall.

Ohio State athletic director, Gene Smith will begin the search for Beal’s replacement immediately. Baseball has seemed to be an afterthought in recent years at OSU, which begs the question… where will Smith turn to find a suitable replacement to bring Ohio State baseball to prominence?
