Ohio Senate Race Heats Up Over Biden Alignment

U.S. President Biden visits Israel amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, is facing criticism for his alignment with President Biden's policies, as concerns mount over the president's recent debate performance affecting Democrats in down-ballot races and on Capitol Hill.

A recent ad from Republican candidate Bernie Moreno's campaign highlights Brown's statement from a 2021 interview where he mentioned, 'Joe Biden's politics now are not much different from mine.'

The ad emphasizes Brown's voting record, stating that he sided with Biden 98.5% of the time during the 117th Congress in 2021 and 2022, and 97.9% of the time during the first half of the 118th Congress in 2023.

Moreno's campaign criticizes Brown for supporting what they term as Biden's 'disastrous agenda.'

Moreno's campaign spokesperson criticized Brown for supporting what they termed as Biden's 'disastrous agenda,' accusing him of contributing to economic challenges, an open southern border, energy policies, and neglecting Ohio workers.

The ad, part of a significant statewide ad buy, will be featured on digital platforms, streaming services, and through mail campaigns.

It includes clips of Brown calling former President Trump a racist in 2019, as well as footage of Biden referring to Brown as his 'buddy,' directing viewers to a website named JustLikeBiden.com.

In response, Brown's spokesperson highlighted the senator's focus on Ohio's interests, citing instances where he opposed unfavorable trade deals, collaborated with Republicans on border security, and advocated for Ohio manufacturers against Chinese competition.

The Ohio Senate race is currently rated as a 'Toss Up' by a nonpartisan political analysis, indicating a closely contested election.

Moreno's latest ad linking Brown to Biden's record comes amid declining national polls for the president, potentially impacting Senate candidates' electoral prospects in the upcoming November elections.
