Ohio Governor Supports Trump Despite False Claims About Haitian Immigrants

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has reiterated his support for former President Donald Trump's campaign for the White House, despite recent false claims made by Trump and his vice-presidential running mate regarding Haitian immigrants in the state.

During a news conference on Thursday, DeWine stated, 'If your question is do I support everything (Trump does), no, but I don’t think that ever is true. We pick candidates, and we support one or the other. Look, I truly believe this is how you have the most impact within a party.'

DeWine's comments come in the wake of Trump's unfounded allegations about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, where he falsely claimed that they were eating local pets and animals, sparking a national immigration debate.

Trump has announced his intention to visit Springfield in the next two weeks, a move that has raised concerns among local officials. Springfield Mayor Rob Rue expressed apprehension about the potential strain on the city's limited resources should Trump follow through with his visit.

Mayor Rue emphasized the importance of truth and unity, stating, 'Absolutely, we’ve asked many times that those with the national spotlight, with a national microphone would speak truth. And we need help and not hate.'

As the community of Springfield braces for a possible visit from Trump, the mayor and residents hope for a message of peace and understanding to prevail over divisive rhetoric and misinformation.
