Oh Hyeon gyu to Celtic transfer gathers pace as Parkhead side put forward 'improved' Suwon striker offer

Celtic have reportedly submitted an "improved" bid for Suwon striker Oh Hyeon-gyu as they ramp up their search for a new striker.

The Scottish Premiership side have shown an interest in the South Korean market this month with Cho Gue-sung emerging on Ange Postecoglou's radar, but a deal for South Korea's World Cup hero appears to have fallen apart with the frontman opting to stay at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors this month. Hyeon-gyu has previously claimed that he was keen on a move to Celtic but the player's club were standing firm over keeping their talisman at the club in January.

However, a report in Korea now suggests Celtic have not given up hope of landing Hyeon-gyu, with Giorgos Giakoumakis likely to leave this month as Urawa Red Diamonds push ahead with a deal this month amid stalled Parkhead contract talks. XSport News report that an "improved" bid has been submitted to Suwon after initial talks.

The 21-year-old has previously talked up his interest in a move to Glasgow's east end. He said: "Celtic, a prestigious club, gave me a good offer. I want to take this opportunity to challenge myself. I have told the club I want to go and I am waiting for the team’s position."
