Ogbene, Gelhardt, Wolf, Leonard — where Swansea City's transfer interest stands right now

With a third of the January transfer window gone, Swansea City are yet to add to their squad.

Brandon Cooper, Fin Stevens and Jordon Garrick have all left the club in some capacity since the turn of the year while Morgan Whittaker was recalled from his loan spell with Plymouth Argyle.

But Russell Martin remains eager to bolster his squad, particularly in attacking areas, ahead of the 11pm deadline on Tuesday, January 31.

Chiedozie Ogbene remains a key target, and the Rotherham United forward is fit and available once again having been briefly sidelined due to an ankle issue after the Christmas period.

Millers boss Matt Taylor recently stated that a cluster of the club's soon-to-be out-of-contract players, including Ogbene, have no desire to sign a new deal with the South Yorkshire outfit at present.

"The other players have been open with us in their communications and dialogue," he said in a press conference.

"But there's no interest from those players at this moment in time to sign those contracts.

"They are keeping their options open and we want to keep ours as well in terms of how we use that money elsewhere or keep that offer going depending on the player in question."

It leaves the door open for Swansea to present Rotherham with an offer for the Republic of Ireland international, who appears more than willing to further his career with a move to south Wales. A case of watch this space, one would suspect.

While Martin has stated player sales are not required to fund new signings, exits would certainly help to speed up the process.

Michael Obafemi and Jamie Paterson are both attracting interest and could be sold in the coming weeks.

Others including Nathanael Ogbeta and Azeem Abdulai could leave on loan while Whittaker's situation remains uncertain, although he is another who could depart the Swansea.com Stadium once again this month.

Joe Gelhardt's situation remains an intriguing one, and Leeds United now appear destined to allow the 20-year-old to leave Elland Road on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

He has a significant amount of Championship interest, with former club Wigan Athletic making contact with the Whites over a potential loan swoop for the man who started his career at the DW Stadium.

Swansea are certainly admirers of the youngster though, and, given their style and ambitions of challenging the top six, Gelhardt will undoubtedly view the club as an attractive option.

As for Brighton's Marc Leonard, a source close to the player has stated both Swansea and Championship rivals Preston North End have monitored his situation.

However, a club source played down talk of a possible swoop for the Scottish midfielder - who is currently on loan with Northampton Town.

Elsewhere, Malcolm Ebiowei appears destined to join Hull City on loan from Crystal Palace.

The Swans looked at recruiting the England Under-20 international but, barring an 11th-hour twist, are expected to miss out on his signature as he looks set to reunite with Tigers boss Liam Rosenior - who he worked with at Derby County.

A second deal for Hannes Wolf had been explored, although Borussia Mönchengladbach opted against sending the Austrian back out on loan when contacted in late December.
