Authorities are currently looking into an electrical transmission tower located in Eaton Canyon as a potential point of origin for the Eaton Fire, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. The area surrounding the tower has been restricted from access by the media and fire department, with only investigators permitted to enter, according to the Times.
An investigator from the California Department of Fire and Forestry Protection, Wayne Howerton, mentioned to the Los Angeles Times that the site is exclusively being investigated to determine the cause of the Eaton fire. He stated, 'Nobody is allowed up there besides investigators.'
In a statement released on Sunday, Southern California Edison stated that after reviewing the circuits and transmission lines in the Eaton Canyon vicinity, their electric equipment is unlikely to have triggered the fire. The utility company's analysis revealed no interruptions or electrical irregularities in the 12 hours leading up to the reported start time of the fire and more than an hour after the fire began.
Cal Fire has classified the cause of the Eaton Fire as 'under investigation,' indicating that the exact source of the fire is still being determined.
