Officials begin to move forward with Brent Spence Bridge corridor project

Kentucky is preparing to move the Brent Spence Bridge corridor project forward . The bridge spans the Ohio River and connects Covington Kentucky to Cincinnati Ohio. The aging bridge has been in need of work for some time and now officials are moving to repair the bridge and build a companion span alongside it.

During his Team Kentucky briefing Thursday, Governor Beshear said early next week they will be issuing a request for proposal.

“That is a major first step, this is essential an invitation to engineering and construction companies to come forward and to compete on who is going to help us design and build the transformational project.”

Governor Beshear said they have been preparing for this for a long time.

“Not only for the people of Ohio and Kentucky, but all of America that depends on this bridge. It’s going to bring good construction jobs that ultimately boost the economy, this is going to change the lives of those who work on it for the better. It’s going to be really incredible.”

Last month President Joe Biden stood with leaders from both Kentucky and Ohio at the bridge and announced 1-point-6 billion dollars in federal funds to help pay for the project. Work is expected to take anywhere from six to eight years.
