The official Major League Soccer website has posted, and since deleted, an article suggesting Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi is on his way to MLS side Atlanta United.
The article, which surfaced on Wednesday evening (January 8) before being promptly removed, ran with the explicit headline 'Atlanta United acquire DP striker Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic FC'.
The link is now dead, however the story's URL outlines what was originally published.
'DP' here references the US league's designated player system, whereby MLS teams can sign up to three players outside of their salary cap – either via higher wages or by paying a transfer fee.

With Kyogo playing against Dundee United around the time the article went live, the post was clearly made in error.
But it has inevitably kick-started the rumour mill regarding the forward's exit from Parkhead.
Atlanta United did sign Japanese striker Cayman Togashi yesterday, and while it could be a case of mistaken identity on the MLS media side, Atlanta were reportedly interested in pursuing Kyogo for £10 million towards the end of last year.
Whether or not the MLS website team jumped the gun with the announcement, or simply got their wires crossed somewhere along the way, is unclear.
We'll have more on this as/when/if it develops.
