A group of heroic witnesses pulled police officers from a car wreckage after two patrol cars crashed this morning.
The marked patrol cars were responding to separate emergency incidents when they crashed at the junction of West Derby Road and Green Lane on Monday, July 11.
Four officers, two male and two female, were rushed to hospital, with two still in hospital this afternoon. Concerned neighbours rushed to the scene at 1.20am today, with one man arriving travelling from his hostel nearby.

Andy Mantova told the ECHO about how he saw a "pile of bodies" trying to help when he ran over. He said: "I was here after the crash. I live in the hostel down the road. I saw two WPCs involved in the crash. It's so upsetting because that's someone's daughter, or sister or mum. I feel so relieved and blessed to hear that no one has died."
He added: "I don't know how it happened. All I asked when I came back this morning was how they are. I'm still trying to process what happened in my brain. I just thought 'what the hell is going on?'.
“I don’t know what speed they were going but they must have had their lights on. I spoke to an officer this morning who said there were no fatalities."
The 52-year-old also revealed that he was involved in a serious crash himself when he was younger where he was left with a lasting scar on his leg and almost died. Adam said the crash brought back a number of memories and held back the tears when explaining what happened this morning.
He said: "It was difficult. I was involved in a crash and I almost lost my life. They are just trying to do their job and thankfully no one has died."
One woman who lives nearby on Snaefell Avenue told the ECHO that her partner heard the crash. She said: "My partner heard a commotion and saw the flashing lights. It made him feel sick when he heard the crash and found out what had happened. His heart sank."
The road remains shut and is expected to reopen this afternoon.
Sergeant Steve Smith from Merseyside Police, serious collision investigation unit said: "We are carrying out an investigation into the collision and CCTV and witness enquiries are underway. I would ask anyone who was driving along West Derby Road in the early hours of this morning who witnessed the collision or can assist us with our investigation to contact us.
"Road closures will remain in place today while we carry out our enquiries and I would like to thank the public for their patience while this incident is being dealt with. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call our Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 22000491644."
