A police officer was reportedly injured after a vigil for teenager Harley Lea.

The 17-year-old died after being involved in a crash close to the junction of Park Road and Boardmans Lane in St Helens in the early hours of Tuesday, October 4. The victim was riding a motorcycle at the time of the crash.

Merseyside Police were called to Gartons Lane and Jubits Lane at around 7pm on Sunday, October 9, following reports of anti social gatherings, following a vigil for the teenager.

Several motorbikes were reportedly seen driving dangerously in the area, and items were thrown at police vehicles in attendance. An officer is believed to have suffered an injury to their hand.

A 19-year-old man and 24-year-old man, from St Helens, have both been arrested on suspicion of murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with the crash.

Local Policing Chief Inspector Paul Holden said: “We understand that emotions are currently running high in the St Helens area but we would appeal for people to remain calm and respect the feelings of the family by not engaging in anti-social behaviour and causing disruption in the local community.”

Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald said: "The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place. We are reviewing CCTV and appealing for anyone who was in the area of Boardmans Lane and Park Road in the early hours to contact us.

"Anyone who believes they have captured something significant on their dash cam or mobile phone is also asked to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or contact @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 22000732165."
