An interview with a law enforcement expert shed light on the events that transpired when an officer at former President Trump's Pennsylvania rally confronted a gunman on a rooftop, leading to a deadly shooting on Saturday.
Retired Las Vegas Police Lt. Randy Sutton provided insights into the incident, revealing that the officer was made aware of the presence of the gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, and attempted to approach him on the roof. However, due to the lack of a ladder or access point, the situation became challenging.
Sutton's sources indicated that the officer resorted to climbing onto the back of another officer in an effort to reach Crooks. As the officer lifted himself over the roof line, the suspect suddenly aimed his gun at him. In a quick reaction, the officer ducked down, causing him to fall off the back of the other officer.
Sutton clarified that the officer's actions were not indicative of cowardice, refuting earlier reports that suggested a possible retreat. According to Sutton, the officer acted upon his observation of the imminent threat, reacting swiftly to avoid being shot.
'This is an officer who made an observation, saw that he was about to be shot, and fell off the back of the other officer,' Sutton emphasized.
