'Of course' - Roberto Firmino breaks silence on Liverpool future amid Juventus transfer rumours

Roberto Firmino has insisted he wants to 'stay' at Liverpool after speculation of a move to Juventus during the summer transfer window. The forward has just one year left on his contract at Anfield.

The ECHO understands Liverpool have no appetite to sell Firmino - who has reportedly attracted a £19.5 million bid from the Serie A club. The Brazilian started in Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City in Saturday's Community Shield match.

Firmino is a much-loved member of the Liverpool squad and fans have expressed their desire for him to be offered a new contract to extend his seven year stay on Merseyside.

When speaking to TNT Sports Brasil after the Reds' first Community Shield victory since 2006, Firmino said: "I love this team, this city and the fans. I'm here. I want to stay of course."

The forward is now 30 years old and endured a difficult season at times last year after facing spells out with injury for the first time during his Liverpool career. After coming back sharp in pre-season, it is clear to see the impact Firmino can still have on this Reds side.

Jurgen Klopp has often described Firmino as the 'heart of the team' and much of the success of the Reds has been down to the selfless running and sheer quality of the forward. In his false nine role, he has opened up space for the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to capitalise and score goals.
