Odell Beckham Jr makes shockingly low contract offer claim amid NFL free agency

NFL superstar Odell Beckham Jr has responded after numerous reports have suggested that he has asked for a huge contract to return to the NFL this season.

Numerous reporters have suggested that the 30-year-old is demanding $20million (£16.4m) a season and a multi-year deal, something he had hoped to receive last year.

Beckham has been away from the sport since the 2021 season, after suffering an ACL tear in the Super Bowl win with the Los Angeles Rams.

Now back to full health, Beckham held a private workout with 12 NFL teams in attendance ahead of the 2023 season, with video clips being released of the receiver running routes and looking as quick as he ever have.

But with the reported $20 million per season price tag, teams might have been put off to make a deal with the star who has suffered two ACL tears in the past three years.

However, Beckham has stated that he has not asked for that much, while revealing he received an offer of just $4million a season.

Beckham tweeted: "I’m just so confused where the quote is from me that said I want 20. All I’m sayin' is 4 AIN'T enough."

Beckham will not likely reveal who the team was to make that offer, but it's one that would be deemed as disrespectful to a player of his calibre - with a number of receivers in the league making more than four times of that. And although he needs to re-establish himself after a year, he'll almost certainly receive an offer much more lucrative than that in the weeks to come.

The New York Giants, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are said to be interested, with more teams likely to consider an offer if his market remains low.

Beckham last signed a five-year, $90 million deal with the New York Giants in 2018, before being traded to the Cleveland Browns, where he was released after just two seasons.

In recent days, the Jets have become favourites to sign Beckham after Aaron Rodgers was said to be wanting the team to sign him after they complete the trade for the quarterback.

Rodgers reportedly wanting the Jets to sign four players including Beckham, one of which they have already signed in Allen Lazard, who was brought in on a three-year deal.
